Robin Spielberg Named Celebrity Spokesperson

for Music Therapy

Nationally renowned pianist Robin Spielberg of Montclair has been named Celebrity Spokesperson for Music Therapy by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA

Spielberg discovered her passion for music as a young girl and began formal lessons at the age of 7 By the time she was 10, she had composed more than 50 songs. Throughout her solo career, listeners have returned time and time again to hear her unique style. Spielberg's fans and critics often describe her music as emotional, soulful, mesmerizing and touching. Her musical gifts have won her a place among the nation's most respected contemporary pianists, as well as a slot on the presitgious Steinway Artist Roster. Spielberg has 10 CDs to her credit, and is currently on a 30-city U.S. solo tour.

The pianist's interest in music and healing grew in 1998, when she witnessed firsthand the positive effect music had on her own baby daughter during her four-month stay in the neo-natal intensive care unit.

Music therapy is an established healthcare profession using music and music applications to influence emotional, physical, cognitive and social responses. Music therapy interventions are designed to improve the quality of life and uniquely address the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses. The AMTA is the professional association representing over 5000 trained music therapists who provide treatment to approximately 500,000 persons in schools, hospitals, community agencies, and other settings around the world. Seventy colleges and universities offer degrees in this field.
